We now offer a choice of either a 5 day Pro Lifecasting Course, a 3 day Body Casting Course, or a 2 day Airbrushing Course. All of which are carried out face-to-face and are suitable for both beginners and professional life casters. We can also provide 1:1 online coaching although to get the best out of your time with us, our preference will always be in-person training. Since launching our training courses in October 2021 after demand on social media, we have been fully occupied on all available dates and by the end of 2023 we will have taught close to 50 students. Our intensive 5 day Pro Lifecasting Course is available at our studio in Dundee, Scotland. For international students who are unable to travel please contact us to discuss us coming to your location to carry out training. Our pro Lifecasting course stands out above others currently available due to the in-depth knowledge & techniques that we teach, and the optional unlimited aftercare support that we provide (monthly subscription fee applies). As well as being a training provider, we also run an in-demand casting service and are often fully booked months in advance. We also specialise in end of life and memorial style castings which means we travel to hospices and funeral homes to carry out casting services when someone is close to passing, or has already passed away. We have gained worldwide acknowledgment for these services and teach our students how to do a memorial style mold in a dignified and professional way.

We do not currently offer training to anyone within 50 miles of our studio in Dundee, Scotland, and a handful of our students throughout the UK & Ireland hold a 50 mile exclusivity in their location. At Lumilo Casting Studio, we have spent years perfecting our measurements and getting the right consistencies of our materials. We use exact measurements to the gram each time we mix our materials so we have a predictable texture and we know how our materials will react. We provide our trainee’s with a bespoke printed table of all the measurements needed for mixing Alginate and stone for different scenarios. We also provide our Pro Lifecasting students with access to the members only section of our website, with direct links to all of the materials and machinery that we use at Lumilo Casting Studio.

Our 5 day Pro Lifecasting Course is very intensive and there is so much to learn that we require 5 days to teach this. Even if you have experience Lifecasting, it’s highly likely we are doing things differently. With all of our nearly 50 students to date, no one yet has came to us doing things the way we do! We have taught a variety of students with different experience levels from complete beginners to already established artists who have been running their business for 6+ years! You can expect to finish our training course with around 4-6 castings of different styles to start or add to your own collection. We work with at least ONE live model during the course duration, and work between ourselves for the other castings. We provide the model and the costs for this are included in the course fee. Please note that the 5 day pro Lifecasting course does not include a body casting. Please see our 3 day Body Casting Course or if you are attending the 5 day Pro Lifecasting Course, we can provide additional Body Casting Training while you are with us, outwith the normal course times.

Our 3 day Body Casting course is great for those who are only interested in body casting or for Lifecasting artists who want to confidently add this service to their business. Body casting can be very different from casting hands/feet. The mold making is more complex and the casting technique is completely different. During our 3 day Body Casting course you will work with a model and take home a cast of a female torso, including breasts, tummy & shoulders.

During our 5 day Pro Lifecasting Course you will learn how to make a simple mold, suitable for Baby Casting, Couples Casting, and Dog Casting. You will learn how to make a complex mold, suitable for Family Casting, Linked Arm Casting, Face Casting, Bump Casting and Memorial Castings. You will learn how to refine details, sculpt imperfections, and create an immaculate finish. You will also learn how to give your sculptures an airbrushed finish which will compliment the casting and give a long-lasting high quality finish.

Please see below an itinerary of our 5 day Lifecasting course (this is a rough guide and can be subject to change. Please let us know if you have any specific interests) -

Day 1 - Introduction to the materials. Working with Alginate and two different stone types. Simple mold demo & participation.

Day 2 - Simple mold participation (Couples casting) and Complex Mold participation (Memorial style casting)

Day 3 - Baby casting (model) demo & participation. On this day we usually take a hand & foot cast from our baby model, and either a fingerhold cast with baby & Mum, or extra feet molds which we use in our baby & us style.

Day 4 - Repairs & refining

Day 5 - Sealing, Airbrushing & Waxing

We also provide our students with lots of tips & tricks throughout the 5 days. We provide a pricing guide to help you price your sculptures and start your business in a lucrative way.

Airbrushing is included in our 5 day Pro Lifecasting Course. Due to high demand we are also offering a 2 day Airbrushing only course. During this course you will learn how to airbrush your casts, and how to assemble and work with an airbrush for spaying sculptures. We provide you with a list of recommended machinery, and the recommended paints - all of which is the same as we use in our own Lifecasting work. On our 2 day Airbrushing only course, you can expect to airbrush 2-3 casts during your time with us. You can bring your own if you are already a Lifecasting artist or we can provide small sample pieces.

You will learn how to raise the level of finish of your castings from good to excellent. A quick look on social media will allow you to see how there is a massive range in abilities between life casters. Lumilo Casting Studio offers unique training in finishing techniques, which will set you apart from others and give you confidence to know that you are providing a long-lasting sculpture with a top of the range finish.

With the skills you learn from our training course, you will be able to earn back the course fee in just a few casting sessions. Our training dates usually fill quickly in advance. Due to the nature of our work and the location exclusivity that applies to ourselves and our 2021 trainees, it is always recommended to book as soon as possible to avoid disappointment. We cannot hold a space without a deposit of 20% of the course fees.

Our optional unlimited aftercare support is a key feature of our training courses. We are yet to come across another training course in the UK that provides such dedicated aftercare support. On completion of our training courses, our students are supported with 4 weeks complimentary aftercare. All students are added to our private ‘Lumilo Aftercare Support’ Whatsapp group (depending which course you have enrolled in) which can continue on a monthly subscription basis afterwards for £15 per month. In this group our students are encouraged to ask for everyday advice, opinions, and to share and support each other’s work. Lumilo Casting Studio can also provide 1:1 support with specific problems and provides access to password protected files on their website which are exclusive to subscription members.

I am a funeral director and wanted to train in memorial castings so that I can offer this service to the families we care for. I had no previous casting experience other than having one carried out for myself when I suddenly lost my 16-year-old son.
